I think the thing about science I like is that t gives answer to the questions I want answering.
      Why do batteries work?
What is the universe made of?
How long will our Sun last?
All of these questions Science is the best thing to answer them with – and we discover a lot of things in the process. So its finding out the answers that is my favourite part.

My favourite part of science is using telescopes!
Using really big telescopes around the world, like Chile and La Palma (one of the Canary Islands). I love looking at new things we’ve discovered, such as explosions of stars and trying to work out what they are.
Did you know you can used these sorts of telescopes from your classroom? The Faulkes telescopes (http://www.faulkes-telescope.com/, 2m telescopes in Australia and Hawaii) can be used by schools to take images anything you like!
I also have a small telescope myself and love looking at the planets and the moon from the back garden.

I love looking at new and exciting things all the time, learning new skills and trying to answer the many unanswered questions. I agree with Heather, using big telescopes is definitely the major perk of my PhD work! I’ve been to the VLT in Chile, and will be visiting again to make more observations in January. There’s a really cool video all about it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVCFc0ZiRt8 They actually filmed part of a James Bond film (Quantum of Solice) at the observatory!
