Nearly all of the stars in our sky are part of the Milky Way galaxy – the collection of 100 billion stars we call home. However, on dark nights you can spot Andromeda – a cloud-like blob of stars. This is a whole other galaxy, although from what we can tell it looks very similar to the Milky Way. With better telescopes, we can spot millions of other distant galaxies – some billions of light-years away. They come in all shapes in sizes, but spiral galaxies (like our Milky Way) are very common
