Yes – many times, and I’d love to see it happen.
There have been some great science fiction books written about the attempts, some more believeable than others.
I quite like the Mars trilogy about attempts to colonise Mars in steps

I also recently read “The Martian” which is more like a disaster scenario where an astronaut stranded on Mars has to try and get himself back home – I here its being made into a film.

I think it would be brilliant if we figured out how to live safely on other planets! We should look after the Earth first and foremost though 🙂 It has lots of oxygen, water, other species of plants and animals for food, a nice amount of gravity, and an atmosphere which protects us from space impacts and harmful radiation from the Sun. It’s really one of a kind – in our solar system at least! Other planets have very extreme temperatures – Venus is 500 degrees – and crazy weather. Mars has dust storms and Jupiter has a massive hurricane type system 3 times the size of Earth (though it also doesn’t really have a surface so that’s no good..)

If we were to go live somewhere else, Mars looks like the most promising possibility. Have you seen the film Interstellar? I’m not sure the future will be Matthew McConaughey finding us a new planet through a wormhole.. but hey, it’s a brilliant sci fi film. 😉
