Well its sort of a mix. You come up with ideas and prove them to yourself, then try and prove them to your colleagues. Once that is passed, then you usually submit them to a journal and someone anonymous reviews it, and decides if its worthy.

      Hi Rachel 😀
As a PhD student I have support from my supervisor, and the team of people who I work with. They guide me and help me to learn, so I’m not completely on my own in my research. As Julian says, once we come up with ideas we think are good – a good analysis and interpretation of the data – we submit a written paper describing our work to a scientific journal. Another scientist will look at what we have done and decide if it’s interesting and worth publishing.
