• Question: Do other planets have atmospheres which you have to pass through to land ,like you do to land on Earth???

      Yes, definitely! Lots of planets in our solar system have an atmosphere. Venus has a very thick one made from mostly carbon dioxide, which traps lots of heat from the Sun inside (just like global warming and the ‘greenhouse effect’ that we talk about on Earth). This makes it the hottest planet in the solar system even though it’s only 2nd closest to the Sun. Its atmosphere is so thick that the pressure is 92 times that on Earth, so you’d be crushed if you tried to visit!!

      Other planets – the ‘gas giants’ – are basically all atmosphere. They are made up of mostly Hydrogen and Helium gas, so you can’t land on a surface there.
